Emotional Healing Parallels Physical Healing

Reading Level: Leisurely

Want physical health? Your emotional hurts may be as much as 85% of the root cause of your physical health problems!

There was an astounding statistic in an article on 12 Tips to Preventing Cancer from Dr. Mercola’s email newsletter which said, “Even the CDC [government’s Center for Disease Prevention and Control] states that 85 percent of disease is caused by emotions. It is likely that this factor may be more important than all the other physical ones listed here…”(1) Those of us who readily acknowledge our need for emotional healing will have little difficulty listing a broad range of physical conditions that are in need of healing as well.

To see physical healing, we must come to terms with the emotional hurts of the past and present.

If you are struggling with past hurts, let today be a starting point for healing. After reading this blog, please take a look at my blog in the Personal Reflections category called, “Healing Through Overcoming Family Past.” If you are dealing with present harmful relationships, take some time with “Recognizing Real Love Part 1 & 2” and “Hope for the Betrayed Heart,” both also in the Personal Reflections. You can follow the tags at the bottom of each article to other blogs on emotional healing but these are a good beginning. Reading the examples in these articles will help you identify some of the sources of your hurts as well as give some practical input to release those negative emotions to which you are still clinging.

Next, creating a new foundation for emotional health begins with healing and prospering of one’s soul.

God expresses His desire that the healing of our emotions and spirits enable physical health as well, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and that your body may keep well, even as your soul is well and prospers (3 Jn. 1:2 AV).” As the soul goes, so goes the rest of one’s life. If your relationship with God is healthy and prospering, your emotional state will be receiving health and healing, resulting in a healthy body.

If you’ve watched any of my flash video blogs (under Video Reflections category) such as “Healing One’s Self Worth,” you realize that even if you live in an environment that is not loving and supportive, you can have healthy emotions and self-worth by basing your views of yourself on the priceless value God places on you. This is what God expects us to do! (Realize it may still be necessary to make changes in your environment, as discussed in the blogs named in the above paragraph.) People are imperfect. Their attitudes and actions toward you fluctuate by the moment. God’s emotions toward you, the overwhelming love and care, are constant. One of the most lovely verses in Scripture is in Zephaniah 3:17, which says that God quiets you with His love and rejoices over you with singing. God sings over you out of the love He feels toward you! What a breathtaking thought! It is focusing on such love, love that only God consistently gives, that provides you the necessary healthy foundation for your emotions. His love for you and value of you is unshakeable, unchangeable. That is what gives you emotional stability throughout life!
